FRIDAY THE 13TH LOTTERY TICKET???.

Not being of a superstitious nature I took a walk around town this morning. The person that sold me my ciggies dropped my change, bent down and banged his head on the till, I watched the workmen in Station Road and saw a lad drop a sledgehammer on his foot. Crossing at the bottom we had to wait for a reversing lorry, a woman with a child in a pushchair watched in horror as the child threw it’s blanket under the lorry’s wheels!. Walking into the shopping centre a gentleman, having purchased a cup of tea dropped it and by the book shop an embarrassed Mum was trying to control a child throwing a strop!.
I bought my lottery ticket and came home!.

Chris,
Believe me, I have thought about it. The trouble is I enjoy it, I used to enjoy it more when I could sit in a pub and smoke but now that I can’t I hardly ever go out, it’s too cold standing outside. One more Labour infliction that is seeing the death of socialising!.

Hi John,

I've never smoked and to tell the truth it doesn't bother me when others, in my presence, do.

But I truly think the decline in the local pub has more to do with the £2:00+ pint than the smoking ban. There's one pub here in Lancaster where a pint of bitter is £2:60. No wonder some pubs are empty 50% of the time. People buy from supermarkets and drink at home, those changing from social drinkers to problem drinkers.

Chris,
Obviously the rising cost of beer puts off some people but the pub you’re talking about is probably some youngsters theme pub, is it not?.
I can still buy a pint for £1.60p but that’s not the point, I hate going outside and being made to feel like a second class citizen.

Sis,
You should know by now, the only luck I get is bad luck, if I bought all the tickets I still wouldn’t win. I can’t even win an argument!!.

Hi John,

Yes it's true, I am indeed young and trendy (would I lie!), but the pubs I'm talking about are simply normal establishments that a typical 50 something working man might wander into.

Apart from a 99p ale (quite a nice pint) that Witherspoon is doing at present, most pubs here in Lancaster charge £1.70 or more for a pint of bitter. And while a 3/4 pint (440g) can of bitter can be bought for 65p in supermarkets. Given the fact that many pubs are closing it would seem illogical to claim that they are deliberately profiteering. But why can some pubs charge £1:70 a pint while others want £2:60?

As for the smoking ban, I really can't see why this wasn't simply a requirement for air purity, which a air filtration systems could meet.

The price pubs charge often depends upon the price at which they buy the beer themselves. Most pubs are owned by the PubCos (people like Punch Taverns or Enterprise Inns) who force their Lessees to buy their beer at inflated prices through their own suppliers.

As for the smoking ban, many pubs had air filtration systems before the ban but they were broken or never switched on etc etc.

Jim,
You appear well informed of the pub game, are you in the trade or a frequent user?.

I don't see the rise in nationalism as a problem. I look forward to it and see it as an opportunity to totally annihilate the left wing establishment and others further down the line who have brought us to this sorry state. Bring it on! G.G.

Whereas I am in agreement with you on the left-wing establishment and also in the rise of Nationalism, whom are those you refer to as “Further down the line”?.
